Following a major fire at a large hotel property located in downtown Atlanta, GA, Commercial Disaster Recovery (CDR) was contracted to complete contents disposal, remediation, and asbestos abatement throughout the hotel’s 12-story South Tower. The scope included 148 guest rooms, two boardrooms, hallway corridors spanning multiple floors, and the rooftop mechanical room. While work was underway, the remainder of the hotel remained open and operational.
Because asbestos-containing materials were present, all work was performed under strict asbestos abatement protocols and in compliance with Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) regulations. CDR designed and implemented a negative air containment plan, coordinated temporary power distribution throughout the tower, and managed multiple phases of work simultaneously to maintain schedule while minimizing disruption to hotel operations.
Over the course of 26 weeks, CDR removed and disposed of 97 (40CY) construction debris dumpsters and 47 (30CY) asbestos waste dumpsters while completing remediation throughout the affected tower. Once all remediation and abatement activities were complete, the project was turned over to the owner for reconstruction.
